WATCH: Supernatural Queer Girl Web Series Carmilla Is Back!
The wait is finally over! Intrepid vlogger Laura and her brooding vampire roommate Carmilla are back for a second season. If you don't know what we're talking about, go forth and binge the first season. You won't regret it (and it'll help with the Orange is the New Blackwithdrawals). We'll wait.
Really? You need more details before blindly indulging? Fine.
The Canadian web series premiered in August last year and is a modern retelling of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's novella of the same name. The series plays with the 'sexy vampire corrupts youth' trope (of which the novella is a very early example – pre-dating Bram Stoker's Dracula by 26 years), pairing apathetic vampire Carmilla with naïve Laura as the pair deal with the usual roommate struggles of chore assignment, irregular sleep patterns and supernatural murders on campus. If that's not enough, look out for loveable supporting characters that include the non-binary gendered LaFontaine, Laura's cute TA and a couple of bros for good measure. Once you're done come back and we can talk season two.
Beware: mild spoilers ahead!
Season two began with a bang, or at least some very PG-13 making out, as Carmilla and Laura are now officially an item. But it's hard to focus on new love when there's an anglerfish demon wedged in the ground, an entire campus newspaper staff murdered and the sorority girls and frat bros locked in their usual war. While Carmilla would rather lock herself in their fancy new digs with Laura, her plucky girlfriend is on the case and negotiating peace. The course of true love never did run smoothly for a vampire and her human lover attending a college that makes UC Sunnydale look peaceful but we'll be watching, whatever Silas throws at them this season.
The first four episodes of season two are available now, with new instalments out every Tuesday and Thursday.
