Fun Home on Broadway Gets Recognition it Deserves with 12 Tony Nominations
A huge congratulations is in order for our (and apparently a lot of other people's) favorite musical of the year! Fun Home, the beautifully accomplished Broadway musical adaptation of Alison Bechdel's graphic memoir, snagged 12 wildly deserved Tony nominations today, and we can't stop freaking out. Our recent review trumpeted our love for this powerful piece of theater, and these nominations (which include Best Musical, of course) pretty much secure that it will be sticking around for a while! So let's meet the nominees, shall we?
All The Alisons; Beth Malone (Best Actress in a Leading Role), Emily Skeggs (Best Featured Actress), and Sydney Lucas (Best Featured Actress), appropriately standing with Freedom to Marry on their #LoveMustWin initiative! Fun Home marks Emily's and Sydney's Broadway debut, and all three of these ladies' first Tony nominations!
Broadway veterans Judy Kuhn (Best Featured Actress) and Michael Cerveris (Best Actor in a Leading Role), who star as Alison's parents.
Jeanine Tesori (music) and Lisa Kron (lyrics) for Best Score. And Lisa Kron again for Best Book! Check out the video below to hear some of their music and thoughts on the process.
And nominations were given as well to Sam Gold (Director), John Clancy (Best Orchestrations), David Zinn (Best Scenic Design), and Ben Stanton (Best Lighting Design). Congratulations once again to the entire cast and creative team of Fun Home on Broadway! Grab your tickets now to catch the Tony nominated magic in action!
