Period ads were never this cool when I was thirteen

Ah, periods.  The most feared, dreaded, celebrated, elusive, and misunderstood phenomenon on the planet. From the earliest days of red tents and laws declaring women "unclean," this monthly occurence has been a source of shame, taboo, and secrecy.  We are taught to do everything possible to keep it under wraps and DL so as not to terrify our male counterparts or appear unladylike.  Yet when you're the last one in your group to be visited by the moon goddess, every day that passes seems like one more step towards biological doom and perma-immaturity.

Luckily, or unluckily, mine arrived right smack in the middle of all my friends' first times.  But unlike most of them, I definitely did not want it to happen to me.  Maybe it was the latent lesbian in me, or maybe I was just not thrilled about the idea of sticking cylinders of cotton up my you-know-what, but either way it was fairly traumatic and my mom showing up with boxes of tampons and pads and attempting a tutorial was not one of my better days.

But for the tweens of today, a rad company called HelloFlo has created an amazing ad campaign that paints periods as the hilarious, embarassing, and ultimately bizarre occurrences that they truly are.  In a follow up ad from last summer's, they've taken the first period party to a whole new level and it's one of the best commercials I've seen.  Alllllmost makes me wish I were just starting this process over again, but not enough to want to go back.
