Since this week’s Glee Christmas episode was a little Santana light –-save for some pretty cute Brittany and Santana hand-holding -- it’s a good time to mention that the hottest lesbian Cheerio with a forked tongue for spitting out scathing one-liners, Santana Lopez, landed at # 11 on MTV’s list of Top 50 TV Characters of 2011, according to MTV.com (thanks to After Ellen for pointing this one out).
Just a year ago Santana –the multi-talented Naya Rivera-- was engaging in occasional “lady kisses” with her former bff,--now girlfriend -- Brittany (Heather Morris), while generally sleeping around with the McKinley High boys and hurling hilarious invectives at anyone who crossed her path. But Santana has come a long way in 2011, coming to terms with being a lesbian, coming out—forcibly but with grace—and landing killer solos!
Here’s what the folks at MTV had to say about Santana making it to #11:
“If any story arc has kept Gleeks from changing the channel, it's surely sassy, slam-ready Santana's struggle to accept her sexuality while taking her deserved spot at center stage in McKinley High's new glee club, the Trouble Tones. Once simply a vehicle for ridiculous one-liners, Santana has grown to become a multifaceted character that's anything but a caricature.”
MTV has yet to release it’s top 10 list of TV characters for 2011, but other fun characters who made the grade include Madeleine Stowe’s manipulative Hampton’s housewife Victoria Grayson on Revenge at #39, the hottest bisexual investigator in a leather skirt and boots ever, The Good Wife’s Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi) at #33, and Pretty Little Liars’ tech-savvy, omniscient mystery blackmailer “A" at #31.
