The American re-boot of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has yet to drop in theaters (although it’s just one day away) it’s looking very likely that the dream team of director David Fincher and star Rooney Mara will re-team for the second films of the trilogy, according to Collider.
At a recent press conference in New York Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac and The Social Network) was asked if he would consider shooting the second and third installments of the films The Girl who Played With Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – based on Stieg Larsson’s juggernaut Millennium Series – back to back.
Fincher replied, “Yes, the second two books are very much one story and it doesn’t seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. I don’t think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it’s really one story that’s kind of bifurcated in the middle.”
Larsson’s international hit series featuring the bad-ass, bisexual computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, was turned into a trilogy of films in Sweden, and it looks as though Sony is not going to stop at The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which has already garnered considerable buzz and praise from critics.
Collider also caught up with Dragon Tattoo screenwriter Steve Zaillian, who said he hasn’t begun penning the second and third screenplays, but he did say that he thought he could have them ready for a late 2012 shoot.
