Lesbian Cop Crush: Mariska Hargitay of �SVU�

Lesbian’s love a strong woman who fights for what’s right (See: Xena, Wonder Woman, etc). So it’s no surprise a lot of us fell hard for Det. Oliva Benson on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The daughter of legendary sex symbol Jayne Mansfield, says she’s comfortable in her own skin and her complex character as she prepares to turn 46.

One regret Hargitay does have regarding SVU  is NBC’s decision to move the drama to 9:oo pm in order to accommodate the failed Jay Leno Show. She tells More magazine the change, “ruined our numbers. Nobody knew when the show was on…I hope we go back to where we belong. It was doing so well. Why mess with it?"

The beautiful actress still has a scar on her forehead from the 1967 auto accident that claimed the life of her iconic mother. Hargitay feels, "she's definitely always with me. I love it when people say, 'She had such a great laugh, and so do you.' When I find similarities, it gives me so much peace." The brunette actress is also comfortable with her strikingly different features from her mother, explaining, "I can never compete [with her], so I don't try. It's mega, [u]ber, it's legendary, it's iconic. Being a sex symbol is not my thing; it's not where I shine."

Hargitay adds even at a unheard of in Hollywood size 8, she’s never worried. "I think I'm a very attractive person, but I don't put myself in the realm of the beauty," she says. "I've never felt compelled to be a skinny actress."

Even when studio executives tried to alter her unique beauty, Hargitay held out. "A guy at ABC told me to change my name and get a nose job,” she remembers. “I said, 'You get a nose job.'"

The resourceful and wise actress is already looking ahead, saving money and savoring the meaty role of Det. Benson, week after week. “There are not that many roles for women, and I've been blessed with one of the great ones."
