Last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy left everyone, especially all the lesbian viewers, with their jaws on the floor as that daunting fade-to-white wrapped up the hour. In this week’s episode, we will learn just what happened to Seattle Grace’s adorable lesbian duo after Arizona asked Callie (who is/was pregnant) to marry her, and then crashed the car – and all in one full-scale musical event show.

Having Tony winner --for Spamalot--Sara Ramirez on the Grey's roster was helpful in the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, convincing the network to give the go-ahead on a musical episode. Apparently it is an episode that Rhimes has been thinking about since the beginning of the series seven years ago, according to TV Guide.

Getting back to the story, those viewers who watched closely last week may have noticed that Callie took off her seat belt to rescue her phone after Arizona threw it in the back of the car, and never buckled back up. She probably got a little sidetracked, since Arizona proposed to her a few seconds after that.

Considering the normal amount of drama involved in everything that happens on Grey’s, it all seemed a little too easy for Callie to just have the baby without any problems. There were some overly obvious hints that things might go terribly wrong during last week’s episode, which SheWired's editor Tracy points out in her Gay-Cap.

Rhimes told TV Guide that the issues with the pregnancy were “destined to happen whether or not there was singing in the episode.” Adding, “It just turned out to be the exact right way for singing to happen.”

And thus we get to the details of what happens this week. The musical part of the episode is seen from Callie’s view point, as she is semi-comatose, and her colleagues communicate with her via song.

Ramirez points out that Callie’s full first name, Calliope, is a mythological Greek figure and the muse of song. "They make the connection from the get-go, so we understand why it's music that Callie's soul is speaking to her through and why she sees everybody singing."

Although other doctors from Seattle Grace have been severely injured, like George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) in the season 5 finale, not every doctor from the hospital worked on him. Callie’s pregnancy is apparently what gives her case more of an edge, requiring practically the entire staff to turn its attention to her, according to Rhimes.

One of the songe that Ramirez will sing is Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.” She says “it’s a wake-up call of epic proportions for Callie. What lies in front of her [after the accident] is more than just glass. It’s an opportunity to fight for her life and to make sense of why her life, and her life with Arizona, is worth fighting for, if that’s the case.” Lets hope this doesn’t mean that their relationship is coming to an end.

If that weren't enough excitement, Callie and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will sing KT Tunstall's "The Universe and U" together.

And, here's more exciting news -- Addison (Kate Walsh) returns to help save the baby.

In typical Grey’s fashion, Lexie will comfort Mark -- Callie's best friend and the baby's daddy-- throughout all the drama. Lexie (Chyler Leigh) is expected to surprise viewers with her singing abilities during her version of  Anna Nalick’s “Breathe (2AM).”

Callie and Arizona’s intense situation brings a couples theme to the episode, causing each duo at Seattle Grace to figure out the status of their respective relationships, topped off with a “Running on Sunshine,” ensemble performance.

With everything revealed so far, this is definitely going to be an emotional rollercoaster of an episode. Even though not all the cast members are Tony-winners like Ramirez, the creativity and talent required to put this together, and pull it off, is something to admire.

The much-anticipated Grey’s Anatomy musical episode airs this Thursday, March 31, at 9/8c on ABC. Also, be ready for the full album release on iTunes Thursday morning, as it includes the cast’s renditions of “How to Save a Life” by The Fray, “Grace” by Kate Havnevik (which is sung by Ramirez and the rest of the female cast), and “Wait” by Get Set Go.

Last Sunday, Sara Ramirez's first EP was released on iTunes. Shonda Rhimes tweeted this message from Ramirez:
