Queen Latifah Says “Being Gay is the New Black” on ‘Single Ladies’

is fabulous. My Twitter is all atwitter. I have six new Facebook fan pages. And for every sponsor that's fallen out, I've gotten two more. Who knew? Being gay is the new black.” But, it was actress Latifah’s character, Sharon Love, in an episode of the VH1 series she also executive produces, 'Single Ladies,' who spoke the long awaited words aloud.

Here’s a quote some never thought would come out of Queen Latifah’s mouth, "It turns out being gay is fabulous. My Twitter is all atwitter. I have six new Facebook fan pages. And for every sponsor that's fallen out, I've gotten two more. Who knew? Being gay is the new black.”

But, it was actress Latifah’s character, Sharon Love, on an episode of the VH1 series she also executive produces, Single Ladies, who spoke the long whispered words aloud and touted the benefits of coming out.

Starpulse.com reports:

The rapper -- and executive producer of the show – plays TV reporter Sharon Love on an episode of the show. The shenanigans start when Love accidentally reveals that she had a lesbian encounter with Stacey Dash’s character Val in college….

Of course in real life, the celeb is well known for keeping her personal affairs just  that—personal.

"My private life is my private life. Whomever I might be with, I don't feel the need to share it. I don't think I ever will,” she said to Essence magazine of the persistent rumors about a relationship with her trainer, Jeanette Jenkins. "Everybody else can do the reading; I'll do the living."

It remains wishful thinking about Latifah coming out, for now. But, it’s worth noting, Ellen DeGeneres dropped joking hints about her being a lesbian for an entire season before historically coming out in "The Puppy Episode" of her TV series, Ellen.
