It was a couples' weekend at the boxoffice as the Vince Vaughn-Jon Favreau comedy Couples Retreat topped the frame with a whopping $35.3 million, pushing last week's champ, Zombieland, to the No. 2 slot. Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It, starring Ellen Page, slid another notch to No. 8; its cume sits at a lowly $8.8 million after three weeks in release.

The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is partnering with the CW for Confessions of a Backup Dancer, a drama adaptation of Alloy Entertainment's book. Confessions explores the behind-the-scenes world of a major pop tour from the point of view of the star's troupe of backup dancers. Chaiken will write the project and co-executive produce.

Former American Idol Carrie Underwood is returning to Fox and will headline a variety special executive produced by Idol's Simon Fuller. The two-hour holiday show, Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special, will air Dec. 7 and will feature the country music star performing hits, holiday classics and tracks from her upcoming album. Musical guests slated for the special include Dolly Parton and Idol David Cook. Carol Leifer is among the team penning sketches for the special.

The Hollywood Film Festival's Hollywood Awards will honor Hilary Swank, Julianne Moore, among others, at its 13th annual festival. The Oct. 26 honors will also present awards to recent Emmy winner Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Tatum O'Neal will play a former queen of the New York underground scene in the indie drama Sweet Lorraine. The actress next appears opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in The Runaways, and has a recurring role on FX's Rescue Me.

Dollhouse fans, rest easy. The latest DVR data gave a big boost to the Joss Whedon drama starring Eliza Dushku. While the numbers still aren't great for a network series, Fox has committed to airing all 13 of the drama's current Season 2. As for what happens after that …

Former Gilmore Girl Lauren Graham has landed Maura Tierney's gig in NBC's Parenthood. Tierney was forced to drop out of the dramadey for health issues.

Catherine Keener will star alongside Clive Owen in Trust, a drama being directed by former Friend David Schwimmer. The story revolves around a family blindsided when their teen daughter becomes the victim of an online sexual predator. Owen and Keener will play the parents.

Sharon Stone will star opposite Carice Van Houten (Valkyrie) in the indie drama Satisfaction. The film, which revolves around a young gigolo in London who finds himself caught between a rich and manipulative older woman (Stone) and a younger woman (Van Houten).

Sonya Walger will be on ABC a lot longer now that the network has picked up rookie drama FlashFoward for a full season. The drama, which offered viewers a hint at an upcoming lesbian story line in Agent Janis Hawk's (Christine Woods) flash forward, joins fellow rookie pickups The Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, The Middle and Cougar Town. No word yet on how struggling freshman Three Rivers starring Kate Moennig will fare.

Radha Mitchell has signed on to star in A&E's drama pilot The Quickening. She will play Maggie Bird, a homicide detective assigned to desk duties after it's discovered that she suffers from bipolar disorder.

Former Beverly Hills, 90210, bad girl Shannen Doherty has signed on for a holiday-themed telefilm for Hallmark Channel. In Growing the Big One, she will play a woman who inherits her debt-ridden family farm and enters a pumpkin growing contest in the hopes of avoiding foreclosure.

Looking to the Billboard charts, Michael Buble's "Crazy Love" debuts atop the album charts, while glam rockers Kiss' "Sonic Boom" enters the charts at No. 2, followed by Toby Keith's "American Ride" bowing at No. 3. Last week's chart topper, Barbra Streisand's "Love is the Answer," slides to No. 4, while Mariah Carey's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" dips from No. 3 to No. 7.

Looking to the weekend at the boxoffice, the beloved family adventure Where the Wild Things Are makes its big-screen debut against the Jamie Foxx-Gerard Butler thriller Law Abiding Citizen and the horror-thriller The Stepfather. Will it be a wild weekend? Check back next week!
