Just in case you weren’t already obsessed with Meryl Streep, we give you one more reason.
Yesterday evening, on June 6, Streep performed at the Public Theater Gala in New York. She, along with Christine Baranski (The Good Wife, The Birdcage, Mamma Mia!, Into The Woods), sung "Brush Up on Your Shakespeare" from the musical Kiss me, Kate.
Oh, the best part? She performed as a drag king. Not any old drag king, but the one and only, Donald Trump. Oh yes, dressed in his iconic red tie, white shirt, and dark suit, Streep slayed as DT. Her wig was on point, her makeup, the orangest of oranges, and her belly stuffed with some extra cushion.
The song, which is inspired by the Taming of the Shrew, was the perfect choice for Meryl to sing in Trump drag. At this point in the musical, male gangsters sing this song to teach the other bros how to seduce the ladies with Shakespeare lines. Given that Trump is a misogynistic, intolerant asshole who views women as objects, the song choice couldn’t be more fitting.
Congrats on taking on your toughest role yet. In classic Meryl Streep fashion, you killed it!
