Tomboy Fashion: Amber Ibarreche - Los Angeles Artist and Writer on Wearable Art, Tees

You need Amber's wearable art and tees in your life right now!

If you’ve never had the honor of being introduced to Artist and Writer Amber Ibarreche then welcome to the party. Newly transplanted into Los Angeles, CA from Brooklyn, NYC; Amber finds herself skateboarding through the streets of Hollywood and Venice Beach (where they “pool-ride” in drained pools built right into the sand a la Dogtown & Z-Boys style). But I’m willing to bet that her most (and I am unbiased) exciting thing since moving to L.A. has been talking to me from her Hollywood digs.

First off, that “I Only Fuck With Goddesses” tee is her design.  How freaking fantastic is that? Especially when you ignore who your ex girlfriend is. When it first hit Instagram it caused a shit storm of amazement because people really connected with it. I like to think because they connected to the goddess in themselves. (And oh yes, the store she’s leaning against carries some of her t-shirts, OtherWild, a hybrid retail store and graphic design studio in Los Angeles, CA). But back to Amber -- Amber has a way of stirring.

“I tend to work in series,” she told me in a phone call. Series of thoughts, t-shirts, art installations, and in this moment, sentences.  Amber speaks even in her pauses.  When asked if she’s seen how Los Angeles is inspiring her work, she says  “I’ve been focusing on my writing a lot more since I’ve been here. My work in N.Y.C was so people based, my work here has been ‘me’ based.  I mean people are definitely interesting and inspiring here too, I just mean there’s more intimacy in NYC with riding the trains, and everyone walking around, so a lot of my inspiration came from that.  It’s different here – which is cool.”

Amber’s writing and art flows onto t-shirts with effortless transition. A friend asked for Amber to put some of her words on a shirt and an outlet of wearable art was born. Amber says, “I had been making my own shirts for years. A t-shirt is cool because once you put your writing on a shirt it turns into an object. Your words become something else entirely really. People can walk around in your art which is awesome.”

It is awesome. And funny. Amber’s work is funny.

Amber’s work is thoughtful:

And lastly, her t-shirts rock my socks:
