The Heartstopper finale movie is dropping tomorrow, and while it’s bittersweet to see the queer teen romance coming to an end, the trailer has us excited to finally see it.
In the feature-length conclusion to the beloved coming-of-age show, Nick (Kit Conner) and Charlie's (Joe Locke) adorable puppy love hits a stumbling block as their high school careers come to an end and they have to figure out what they’re doing next and whether they can stay together.
“Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for University and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them,” the official synopsis reads. “Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”
While we hate to say goodbye to Nick, Charlie, and the whole gang of queer characters after watching them grow and fall in love over the course of three seasons, we’re still eagerly counting down the minutes until the movie premieres because the new trailer that was released today is giving us all the feels.

1. Tackling some of their problems

The trailer makes it seem like Nick is going to be dealing with his desire to always have a plan and control the future no matter how futile that can be, while Charlie is struggling because he’s been so focused on surviving high school and his teen years that he hasn’t thought about what the future will look like.
Since this is a finale movie, we’ll likely see these issues resolved before the boys get their happily ever after.
2. Jealous Nick

"Were you just flirting with my boyfriend?" That's the question a tipsy Nick asks in the trailer. Is jealousy a healthy emotion? Probably not in real life, but we love to see that kind of passion in an onscreen romance!
3. That party scene

There is a moment in the trailer where Nick watches Charlie across the room as he dances at a party while colored lights flash across Nick’s face that had us flashing back to a club scene in a certain gay hockey romance series.
Is that just because we still have Heated Rivalry on the brain? Probably, but we’re still excited to see how things play out for Charlie and Nick.
4. The found family

The show has always showcased a wide range of LGBTQ+ characters, each on their own emotional journey and grappling with their identities, who band together to support one another.
We don’t learn much about the supporting characters who make up the beautiful queer community Nick and Charlie are part of in the trailer, but seeing them all come together is heartwarming.
5. The potential heartbreak

Okay, so this may seem like a weird thing to be excited about, but hear us out. The trailer is full of emotional moments, yearning, fear about what the future holds, and the looming potential that Nick and Charlie might not make it.
We also know that this is a finale and Alice Oseman, who created the graphic novels the show is adapted from, has said that she wants the story to be deeply positive and has guaranteed a happy ending for Nick and Charlie.
