Apparently when you’re at the Cameron Village in Raleigh, N.C. and you’re a lesbian couple kissing on the cheek, you’ll be asked to leave. Just ask Caitlin Breedlove and her partner, who had a security guard at the shopping center ask them to leave -- not that anyone had actually complained to him.
According to Breedlove, she and her partner were sitting on a bench with their arms around each other and kissed briefly on the cheek when they were approached by a security guard who told them “being affectionate” was “inappropriate” and then added “no one wants to see that in Cameron Village.”
When Breedlove asked the security guard if they would be asked to leave if the two were a man and a woman the guard replied “no.” “We were honestly surprised and saddened that we were asked to leave” said Breedlove.
A manager at Flying Biscuit where the couple had just dined, Dan Palatucci, said, “They were distraught when they came back in.”
Palatucci said he took the issue to the Cameron Village management and feels as though management is working to get to the bottom of the situation adding, “I know Cameron Village as a whole is not taking it lightly. They are aware of it, but are trying to get information about the incident.”
There was no word from York Properties, which manages Cameron Village. The ACLU of North Carolina is looking into the claim says Katy Parker, legal director for N.C. ACLU.
