Lesbian Love in Vintage Photos

Lesbians have been around since the dawn of time, but many of us only think of same-sex couples in a post-Stonewall world. It's almost as if they couldn't possibly exist in public before that era, and stayed hidden in the shadows like the two women "friends" who (sadly) never married so they lived together as roommates.

Buzzfeed found a number of vintage photos of lesbian couples on a Tumblr post that no longer exists. Fortunately, the Buzzfeed page does, so we were able to take some of those fantastic shots along with some other photos we found hidden in the depths of the internet and compile them for you.

These aren't just images that one could misinterpret as 'gay' - from the way the various subjects hold hands, look at each other, or even kiss - these women are definitely more than friends. It's a fun, sweet, and supremely romantic tribute to Valentine's Day. Enjoy.
