The upcoming sequel to 2017's Spiderman: Homecoming is reportedly looking to cast a gender-nonconforming character!
The MCU film's casting call leaked online earlier this week and production is reportedly looking for, "an 18-22-year-old, ethnicity to play a gender non-conforming student."
Gender-nonconforming individuals don't match masculine and feminine norms and allow themselves to present with any combination of masculine, feminine, or gender-free traits.
The character would be groundbreaking for Marvel, as well as gender-nonconforming representation. Last year, GLAAD LGBT inclusion report cited zero gender-nonconforming characters on television. The character would be especially notable coming from a studio as huge as Marvel, and could also be one of their first explicitly queer on-screen characters.
Casting starts soon, and filming begins this July.
The Spiderman: Homecoming sequel is due in theatres July 5, 2019.
