Deivis Ventura recently announced his campaign, and is the first openly gay man running for a seat as diputado (a representative in the Dominican Republic’s equivalent of the House of Representatives). His platform champions poor workers, women, and environmentalism, and his goal is to pass hate crime laws, a gender identity law, and non-discrimination laws.
