Jack Landau, a gay friendly Oregon Court of Appeals judge defeated Allan J. Arlow, to be named to a seat on the Oregon Supreme Court, the Associated Press is reporting.
Landau received 72 percent of votes with Arlow, an Administrative Law Judge for the Public Utility Commission, receiving 28 percent.
Landau made headlines in 1998 when he wrote a historic opinion extending gay and lesbian rights in the state. The case, Tanner v. OHSU, was a dispute over whether employers could discriminate against gay and lesbian couples when providing health care benefits.
