American female runner Kara Goucher placed third in the annual Boston Marathon.
Goucher had been favored to win, but ultimately was bested by Kenya’s Salna Kosegei. Goucher finished just nine seconds behind Kosgei (2:32:25). No American has won the event since 1985 whenLisa Larsen-Weidenbach took home the women's title.
Kara Goucher’s proud patriotic showing was indeed rare at the traditional Patriot’s day marathon which was dominated by Ethiopian runners in both the men’s and women’s races.
