'Stargate' Brings Lesbians Back To Prime Time

The newest installment of Stargate will be known as Stargate Universe or SGU will prominently feature the series franchise first lesbian character. Talented, gorgeous, ER alum Ming-Na Wen will portray political attaché Camille Wray. Stargate Universe will premiere on the Sci Fi channel this fall and SGU also costars Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Carlyle.

After the bitter end of the L Word and Showtime’s rejection of The Farm it seemed lesbians were banished to daytime soap operas and reality TV forever more.

Unless you were crossing your fingers for that weak Dr. Arizona ish over on Grey’s Anatomy, which is just not enough to get a girl through a night on the couch.

Leave it to Sci-Fi to recognize a stellar opportunity to revive a hungry lesbian primetime audience.

The newest installment of Stargate will be known as Stargate Universe  or SGU will prominently feature the series' franchise first lesbian character. Talented, gorgeous, ER alum Ming-Na Wen will portray political attaché Camille Wray.

Stargate Universe will be “younger and edgier in tone,” and “follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.”

Producers are currently casting the role of Camille’s partner, Sharon, who will be a reoccurring guest on the show as well.

Afterellen.com reports that scenes they’ve previewed portray Camille and Sharon “very naturally and affectionately — talking, making dinner, and sharing a kiss.”
