These 5 Straight Celebrities Are Way Better LGBT Allies Than Ivanka Trump

Ivanka who?? These straight entertainers ACTUALLY know how to be an ally for queer people.

In case you missed it, businesswoman and President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump took to Twitter yesterday to tweet about Pride Month.

Although she said more than her father did (which was literally nothing), her tweets still didn't go over too well with a lot of people, especially since (as critics are pointing out) she's complicit in the many ways the Trump administration is rolling back protections for the LGBT community.

One thing is for sure, though: two tweets do not make anyone a good and genuine LGBT ally. If you want to see what a true straight ally to LGBT people looks like, these 5 awesome celebrities are perfect examples!

1. Dolly Parton

Besides being a country music icon, Dolly Parton has spent most of her life speaking up on behalf of the LGBT community, even if she gets criticisms for it from others.

"I do not believe that we should criticize and judge other people. I think we should be accepting and loving. We are all God’s children. We are who we are and we should be allowed to be who we are," she told Larry King in a interview from last year where she talked about how some conservative Christians shouldn't be so quick to judge queer people. "I keep saying, 'If you’re the fine Christian that you think you are, why are you judging people?' That’s God’s job. We’re not judges, we’re supposed to love one another, we’re supposed to not judge. We’re not supposed to take vengeance on other people, that’s God’s job. I’ve got too much work to do in my own not to (try) and do God’s work too."

2. Anne Hathaway

Oscar-winning actress and The Devil Wears Prada icon Anne Hathaway has also been a passionate supporter of LGBT equality for years. When her gay brother came out, she and her family left the Catholic church because of their anti-LGBT stances. And in 2012 (three years before national marriage equality was passed), she donated a bunch of money from the sales of her wedding photos to organizations fighting for same-sex couples who wanted the right to marry.

3. Jennifer Hudson

The Oscar and Grammy winner is proud of her LGBT fans. During Pride Month in 2015, she teamed up with W Hotels and the Human Rights Campaign to support marriage equality in the fun (and touching) music video for her song "I Still Love You," where a gay wedding was depicted.

"I just think the concept was just powerful to go with such a positive song. It's about love and everyone should have love and have the right to love who they want to love," she told MTV News at the time. "So I thought it would be powerful to take a concept like trying to find your equality in love no matter who you love."

4. Josh Hutcherson

The Hunger Games star is such a good LGBT ally, he wants to help other straight people become one. He co-founded Straight But Not Narrow in 2011, and the organization's mission is to be "an ally awareness campaign that prepares and trains young adults on how to become allies of their LGBTQ peers."

5. Beyoncé

From speaking-out against North Carolina's anti-trans bathroom bill HB2 and voicing support for trans kids, to celebrating marriage equality and dedicating a performance to the victims of Pulse, Queen Bey has regularly made it a point to let the world know she is always there for the LGBT community.
