14 Vogue Performances That Will SLAY You, Then Bring You Back to Life

A reminder that Madonna did not make Voguing a thing.

Spoiler alert: neither Madonna nor Anna Wintour are the reigning queens of Vogue. The queens of Vogue were (and still are) queer black people, who founded the form of performance in ballrooms back in the 1960s. Divas like Madonna did little more the cash-in on black culture, presenting something that the world accepted as her's, when it had, in fact, been around long before she ever uttered a tune on the radio. Unfortunately, because of her influence, many people think of Voguing as little more than framing your face and moving your hands around. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Vogue is a form of performance that is powerful because, in order to be successful, the dancer must feel every movement and not fall even a second behind the beat. Voguing is not something someone can pick up overnight, nor is it something kids can learn quickly off YouTube videos. Voguing gets people screaming, out of their seats.

The 14 videos below will give you everything you need and show you exactly what I'm talking about. And if you want more slay-worthy, awe-inspiring Vogue videos in your feed, make sure to follow @vogueclips!
