An Indianapolis Teen Became His School's First Trans Prom King
Faith in humanity restored.
Alan Belmont, a transgender high school student in Indianapolis, was crowned king at his school's annual prom last weekend.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR THIS TRANS MAN WITH A PLAN #NCPROM2017

Belmont, a junior at North Central High School, decided to run for king to set an example for other LGBT students. “I wanted young kids at my school, who are trans or maybe gay or just coming into their identity, to know that being LGBT doesn’t have to be a cripple," the 17-year-old told WISH-TV News. "Being LGBT is something that you should be proud of."
During his run for prom king, a few of Belmont's posters were vandalized. Someone even scribbled over the word "King" and wrote in "Queen." He took a photo of the poster and posted it on Instagram with an inspiring message.

The caption reads:
"I've gotten a lot of questions as to why I am running for prom king. But this is the real reason. Despite all the love and support I've received, there's still so much ignorance in the world. I want my trans friends to know that this is nothing but stupidity and hate. This doesn't stop me from being me, and I will continue to fight to win this. Ignorance will fall, pride and love will rise."
Untimately, Belmont won the student body vote and was crowned prom king at NCHS's annual junior prom. He attended the dance with his girlfriend, Staci.
"Being trans doesn’t have to be something that’s so taboo," he explained to WISH-TV News. "Being open about your identity is such a wonderful thing and it helps grow confidence and helps people be happy."
Congratulations Alan! We're so proud of you!
