Recap: A Very Fosters Father's Day

Now with more love, acceptance, and forgiveness than ever!

It's Father's Day on The Fosters this week, and there's no shortage of drama. And fathers, really. Between Jude's dad Donald, Callie's dad Robert, Mike, and Connor's dad, there's a pretty stellar recipe for secrets to be revealed and tears to be shed. And on top of all that, we've got issues to deal with like Mariana's virginity, Brandon's horrible Idyllwild partner Kat, and AJ's spray paint debacle. So many plot lines, so little time!

Callie: Now that Robert's in her life, Callie's having a first-time Father's Day experience like never before. She's invited to their yacht and everything seems to be going pretty well, except Sophia's got a pretty noticeable edge to her. She talks to Callie and tells her she knows something's wrong, and she thinks they're going to send her away to a 'therapy boarding school.' She blames her mother for this and is completely paranoid about her parents' secretive behavior. However, it turns out that they weren't whispering about Sophia at all, and instead the big news is their separation. Sophia is going to live with her mom while Robert moves out for a bit. Robert insists that Sophia shouldn't blame her mother for this, and later divulges to Callie that he cheated on his wife and that's why they're separating. He's felt that she's always been the runner up to his real true love - Callie's mom - and that feeling that way ultimately broke up his family. He wants Callie to stop thinking he's a better man than Donald, because even though his mistakes didn't cause anyone's death, he still made them. This leads Callie to run after Donald and say goodbye before he heads out, thus hopefully mending some old wounds. Happy Father's Day!

Brandon: Brandon is suffering this week, and this might be the most sympathetic his character has ever been. His partner Kat is making life at Idyllwild a living hell. She's also making listening to her speak a living hell for the audience, with her verbal pretentiousness and abuse of Brandon for no real reason. However, things seem to be on an upswing for the two when they get wasted and bond at a party. Kat admits she thinks Brandon is 'fun,' and he seems thrilled at the turnaround. She also tells him she'll probably be late to rehearsal the next day. NOT SO. Kat is there bright and early, and when Brandon comes in a half hour late, she accuses him of not caring and demands to get switched to a different partner. Et tu, Kat? Even worse, Brandon is convinced the one friend he thought he had was totally in one it, since he was the one who insisted Brandon go to the party in the first place. Brandon, buddy, we feel your pain. Surprisingly, we really do.

Mariana: So last week, Mariana wanted to lose her virginity to her boyfriend and when he turned her down, she randomly hooked up with Wyatt - Callie's ex with the great hair, remember - and lost her virginity to him. Now racked with guilt, Mariana finally divulges this secret to Ana while they both nervously avoid going to the Father's Day party thrown by Ana's parents. Ana makes sure that Mariana was safe and is still very much aware of her self-worth, and also tells her she should probably tell her moms. Feeling better, the two enter the party together and have a perfectly lovely time.

Jude: Though invited to Robert's yacht party, Jude informs Callie that Robert isn't his dad and there's no reason to invite him to everything. However, he does want to invite Donald to the Father's Party. Callie's upset about this because she still blames Donald for the death of her mom. everything is perfectly peaceful at the party, that is until Connor's father learns that Connor's been outted at school. Connor doesn't seem too bothered by this, but even though Connor's dad has been trying to do some research and be tolerant, he's definitely upset the whole school knows his son is gay. Donald swoops in for some rationalization, and tells Connor's dad that getting bullied at home is much worse than anything happening at school. As for his fear that Jude might get bullied because of his sexuality, Donald just wants him to be proud of who he is. Aw! Lessons learned all around, and Connor's dad seems to calm down for a bit.

We're adding a Mike section for today so here goes: AJ's been arrested for tagging, and Callie is still trying to help him out even though he potentially ruined her chance to graduate. By helping him, she means get Stef involved, and they find out all about his lost brother and AJ's attempt to use tagging to find him. AJ's worried that he can't find him because something's wrong, and Stef agrees to help. And by Stef helping him, she means asking Mike to foster AJ. She's done some research and discovered that AJ's actually a really good kid with good grades, and all this behavioral stuff started happening recently. Mike then meets with the family and announces his intention to foster AJ, the only thing is he needs to get his license first, so in the meantime the Adams Fosters will be fostering him. Callie is not deeply thrilled about this.

Stef and Lena: Aside from being a part of other plot lines we mentioned about this week, Stef and Lena don't have a whole lot going on except dealing with the wood rot that is destroying their house. Womp. However, to cheer things up, when Father's Day is over the kids present a bouquet of flowers to celebrate 'Parent's Day.' Now that's much cuter than wood rot!
