Though the Marvel Studios roster is slowly but surely becoming more and more diverse, there still has yet to be an openly transgender actor cast in a role of one of their many films. That is, until 23-year-old actor Zach Barack landed a part in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Far From Home flick.

"It's an honor...a responsibility and an honor and something that I intend to do what I can with it," Barack said on the red carpet of the Far From Home world premiere when asked by Variety about making history as Marvel Studios' first trans actor. "I want people to get the best experience out of this movie. I want them to be able to take something meaningful out of it."

Speaking about the trans appeal of superhero films, he continued:

"To me, that's what superhero movies have always been. They're so inherently trans. It's about double identity, and that's so much a part of my life, so I am so deeply honored."

This is a major step towards more LGBTQ inclusion in the superhero genre, so we can't wait to see what the future holds for the MCU!

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2!
