Is Lady Gaga Being Courted for a Live-Action 'Bayonetta' Movie?

According to rumors, Sony is looking to cast the Oscar-winning popstar and proud gamer girl in an upcoming film adaptation of the video game series!

Ever since her Oscar-nominated performance as Ally Maine in 2018's A Star Is Born, we've been dying to see which film project pop icon Lady Gaga is going to take on to follow it up. While we'd love to see her in another drama or maybe even a romantic comedy, apparently something else might be in the works for Mother Monster: a lead role in an upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the Bayonetta video game series.

According to an unnamed source in We Got This Covered, Sony Pictures is producing a film based on the video game character—a seven-foot-tall witch with magical hair—and is eyeing several actresses for the lead role, with the "Stupid Love" at the top of the list.

While going from a dramatic role in A Star Is Born to leading a big-budget video game blockbuster sounds like a big jump (we love actresses with range, though!), it's really not surprising when you find out that Bayonetta, developed and published by PlatinumGames and Sega respectively, is Gaga's favorite video game series. She's gushed about the game often on Twitter, and even tweeted about how one time she played it so much, her hands started hurting.

As with any reporting that uses undisclosed sources, we have to take this news with a grain of salt. So far, nothing has officially been announced, and considering the current state of the world and the entertainment industry, we have to note that that probably won't be the case for quite some time.

Still, how freakin' fierce would that be to have Gaga lead a video-game movie?!?! We can always hope!
