The life partners of eligible gay Federal workers will be offered benefits starting in July, the Washington Post is reporting.
Family members of the employees will be covered for medical insurance, long term medical insurance, will have access to credit unions and will be able to open gym memberships.
However, these benefits do not cover servicemen and women. The Senate will take up a full vote soon to determine with the DADT policy should be repealed. Last week the House voted for repeal.
The move goes beyond a memo Obama signed last June, which permitted same-sex partners to use the government's long-term-care insurance.
