In a world that can still be hostile to LGBT individuals, it matters when queer celebrities and public figures publicly come out. Not only does their presence add mainstream visibility to the LGBT community at large, but it also shows young people who are still learning and coming to terms with their identity that it is okay to be who you are and that you are not alone in this world.
