Ruth Bader Ginsburg presided over a same-sex wedding yesterday afternoon in Washington, D.C., making this at least the second time the Supreme Court justice has performed a gay couple’s marriage in the past two years.

At Washington’s historic Anderson House, Ginsburg officiated the marriage of Shakespeare Theater Company artistic director Michael Kahn and New York architect Charles Mitchem, reports Maureen Dowd of The New York Times.

Although this isn’t the first time Ginsburg has officiated a gay wedding, Dowd notes that this ceremony was very special, especially considering last month’s historic hearings at the Supreme Court regarding potential nationwide same-sex marriage.

“But the most glittering moment for the crowd came during the ceremony,” Dowd writes. “With a sly look and special emphasis on the word 'Constitution,' Justice Ginsburg said that she was pronouncing the two men married by the powers vested in her by the Constitution of the United States.”

Ginsburg, who known is for being one of the Supreme Court’s most progressive justices, officiated a same-sex marriage back in August of 2013, making her the first high court judge ever to do so.
