'Knives Out' Cast Tell Us How to Survive Crazy Family

Writer, director, and producer Rian Johnson's upcoming project Knives Out is very much structured like the classic whodunit films of yesteryear, but with one modern exception: there are incredibly relevant and timely themes about class divide and immigration. 

"The whodunit is a genre that I love so much. I grew up reading Agatha Christie's books. But many times you see them today, they're done as period pieces. It seemed like it'd be a really interesting thing to do an original one and to really plug it into 2019 America," Johnson told PRIDE at the red carpet world premiere of the film. "To me, that meant not just giving it a modern skin of cell phones and modern cars. That meant okay, we're gonna it. Let's actually if we have a big family after a couple glasses of wine, let's have them argue about what we're all actually arguing about together, and let's have the movie approach that in a way that has a perspective. So that seemed like a really interesting combination of the old and the new to me."

And speaking of big families, the film's ensemble cast—which includes superstars like Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Ana De Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, and Jaden Martell—is an incredibly hilarious and dysfunctional one. With the holiday season also upon us, we asked the film's cast and crew what advice they have for people who have to spend some time with their own crazy fams.
