Recently released documents revealed that in 1964, J. Edgar Hoover and his FBI team investigated the relationship between Jack Valenti, former aide to President Lyndon Johnson, and a male photographer.

According to the Washington Post, Hoover’s bureau spent valuable time and resources investigating, despite President Johnson’s disapproval and personal claim that Valenti was attracted to, “the women and not to the men."

Hoover’s men eventually found the photographer in question who denied the allegations and the investigation was abandoned. It is rumored that J. Edgar Hoover was hiding his own sexuality and therefore deflected by launching many inquiries into public official’s private lives.

Jack Valenti, who passed away in 2007, was best known for his time as chief of the Motion Picture Association of America, pioneering the rating system.  Before serving as a top aide to President Johnson, he served as a consultant and was present in the Dallas motorcade the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
