On the red carpet at New York's Kennedy Center this weekend, Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recipient Ellen DeGeneres weighed in on the presidential race.

"Well, I am certainly hoping our president stays put," DeGeneres told Politico before she took the stage at the celebration honoring her contribution to American comedy. If Mitt Romney wins the election, DeGeneres said, "If you're a woman, you should be very, very scared of that, for many reasons. And obviously as a gay person he doesn't believe in me having the same rights, so of course I'm not happy about that."

When DeGeneres took the stage to accept her award, she gave a shout-out to Mitt Romney's infamous debate pledge that he would cut federal funding to the Public Broadcasting Service, even though the presidential hopeful "likes" Big Bird on the popular children's television show Sesame Street. 

"Thank you to PBS," said DeGeneres. "I am so happy to be a part of your final season."
