Jesse Williams' Nude Leak Leads to New Security Measures at Theater

It only takes one person to make things difficult for everyone.

One Broadway show is getting a security overhaul after a disrespectful patron leaked Jesse Williams’ nude bod onto the internet.

You may have noticed the Grey’s Anatomy star trending on Twitter this week — or more specifically, his anatomy started trending. That’s because, despite a hard rule against taking photos or video during the show (duh, come on guys), someone decided to record during a moment of the show’s full frontal nudity and blast it out to the world. To be clear: producers had taken the step to ensure attendees secured their phones in a locked pouch for the show, so this person clearly sidestepped protocol.

The result is a complete breach of trust between the actors and the audience. Live theater comes with its own set of rules, and just because you can get away with sneaking a little recording on your phone doesn’t mean it’s actually cool to do.

And because of a single dick that ruined it for everyone else, the Second Stage Theater, where Take Me Out currently lives, has decided to go above and beyond by installing infrared cameras so the audience can be monitored by security at all times. This is in addition to the pouches theater-goers are already required to lock their phones in at the start of each show. According to Deadline, the system has already been installed and anyone who takes pictures or video will be asked to deleted it and could also be asked to leave mid-show.

“At every performance, there is a mutual understanding between the audience and the performers that we are sharing an experience limited to this time and place; that trust makes it possible for us to be exposed both emotionally and physically,” Actors’ Equity Association president Kate Shindle said in response to the leak. “Trampling on this agreement by capturing and distributing these photographs and videos is both sexual harassment and an appalling breach of consent. It is a violation that impedes our collective ability to tell stories with boldness and bravery.”
