"Good morning, Baltimore!"
Maddie Baillio will be belting out those iconic opening words in NBC's latest live musical adaption, Hairspray Live! The 20-year-old is taking on the lead role of Tracy Turnblad, the precocious '60s schoolgirl who learns about love, life, and acceptance in one of Broadway's most memorable musicals.
Baillio landed the role after besting more than 1,000 candidates during an open casting call. She joins a all-star cast, including Harvey Fierstein (who won a Tony playing Tracy's mother, Edna), Martin Short as Wilbur Turnblad, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle and Derek Hough Corny Collins.
What do you think of the cast? We're pretty psyched, and can't wait for Hairspray Live! to hit the airwaves this holiday season, December 7.
