With the help of DC, the CW is becoming your go-to home for LGBT superheroes.

DC is stepping its LGBT representation in a major way. Over the years, we've seen several LGBT characters come to light during the DC universe's time at the CW, with characters like Sara Lance, Nyssa al Ghul, and Curtis Holt playing major roles in Legend of Tomorrow and Arrow, and recently DCTV producer Greg Berlanti and his team announced a major character on one of their shows will be coming out as well. We're definitely pulling for someone on Supergirl.

While we'll have to hold out for more news on that revelation, we do now know that CW Seed (CW's online division)  and DC are now developing an animated web series starring a gay superhero that will debut in 2017. The show, called Freedom Fighters: The Ray, will be produced by Berlanti and fellow DCTV producer Marc Guggenheim. According to Deadline.com, this is what we have to look forward to:

"Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists." The characters in the CW's web series will closely reflect those in an updated version of the series featured in Multiversity, by writer Grant Morrison who set out to diversify the characters to "better reflect American demographics." We're not complaining!

While an animated web series may not be everyone's favorite platform, we can expect Ray to cross over into the CW's live-action superhero universe, which we'll definitely be tuning in for. We could also possibly expect him to be played by a musical theater actor if this Flash / Supergirl musical crossover episode news is any indication of just how much these super-shows like super-singers.

Either way, we're thrilled with this news and can't wait to see Ray in action, as well as in live action when he one day makes his way to TV.

Keep up the good work, DC and CW!
