MTV’s reality show The Real World has been featuring gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender cast members since it first aired in 1992. The show just premiered the first episode of its 26th season, The Real World: San Diego, with two people from the LGBT community among the newest cast.

Sam McGinn, a self-identified butch lesbian, and Frank Sweeny, who identifies as bisexual, join five other young adults in San Diego, California to “work together and have their lives taped… to find out what happens… when people stop being people… and start getting real,” as the opening sequence of the show explains.

Sam is from Chesapeake, Virgina, and is passionate about gay rights, and even from just the first episode it seems like she will be very outspoken about being a lesbian.

According to her bio, Sam is the daughter of military parents and a self-described "stud lesbian" whose sexuality initially strained her relationship with her mother, but the relationship has since improved. MTV is characterizing her as the “girlfriend stealer,” which is sure to mean plenty of drama in the house.

Sam is in college, studying to become a parole officer, and also performs as her drag king alter ego named Shawn Jade.
