WATCH: 'The Voice's' Out Alt Rocker Michelle Chamuel's Tear-Jerking Rendition of 'True Colors'

After nearly 25 years of hearing just about every possible iteration of Cyndi Lauper’s anthem “True Colors,” I thought I was done crying over this song, but The Voice’s out alt rocker and self-confessed nerd Michelle Chamuel brought tears to my eyes with her heartrending delivery of the classic on Monday.

Prior to Monday’s live performance, Coach Usher’s most prized team member (in my opinion) delivered electric performances of “I Kissed a Girl,” “Titanium” and “Raise Your Glass.” For the first live show of the season Usher chose “True Colors” for Michelle in order to showcase her more vulnerable side and also to tap into her feelings of being different. Despite some initial trouble with her monitor (a theme for many of the performers Monday), she nailed the song. Period.

Here’s the lead singer of the Ann Arbor based band Ella Riot tugging on heart strings in a most genuine way. Look no further than Coach Shakira’s enrapt expression to know that Michelle was moving hearts and minds on that Voice stage.

Be sure to check out Michelle’s performance and vote often for her if you like her! I think she has the goods to make it all the way on the show.
