Miley Cyrus Denies Cheating Ended Her Marriage: 'I Have Grown Up'

She's setting the record straight.

Anytime celebrities break up, it’s inevitable that fans get a little too intense trying to read between the lines of what might have really happened to cause the split. And it’s inevitable for that speculation to include accusations of cheating, even if it’s a totally baseless claim.

But Miley Cyrus wasn’t having any of that. When she announced her split with hubby Liam Hemsworth earlier this month, with the actual filing reportedly citing nothing more than the usual “irreconcilable differences,” we didn’t expect any more info. But now the singer has come forward to deny accusations that the marriage ended due to her cheating.

“I can accept that the life I’ve chosen means I must live completely open and transparent with my fans who I love, and the public, 100% of the time,” she wrote on Twitter. “What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. I have nothing to hide.”

Miley’s thread spanned 11 tweets, during which she admitted cheating in relationships when she was younger, which she fully owned as “fucked up.”

“But the truth is, once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it, & I was committed,” she insisted. “I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP.”

Miley and Liam have a long history, originally getting together back in 2009 before breaking up in 2013 and reuniting in 2016. Their marriage may have only lasted eight months, but their relationship covered much of their adult lives so far.

“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” Miley tweeted. “I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and I always will.”

The younger Hemsworth has yet to comment on the split himself beyond an initial Instagram announcement calling it a private matter and wishing Miley “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
