Straight Couple Gets Annulment After Both Realize They're Gay
Better late than never!
Realizing you’re gay after you’re already married to somebody of the opposite sex can be an awkward conversation. One way it might be easier? If your spouse is also on the verge of coming out.
A married couple in Leeds went through this journey for themselves when they both realized they were gay within 13 months of tying the knot.
Scott Turner-Smith came out publicly towards the end of August, tweeting “It feels freeing to be able to be my whole self, and I’m excited to find out what’s next.”
A day later, his former wife, Jo, retweeted his post and added: “We have had a hoot signing the nullity petition today — ‘invalid consent by mistake — turns out we are both gay.’ Enjoy that, Judge.”
According to The Sun, Jo, who is a dentist, has already found new romance in a junior doctor who worked with her at a hospital. And the three joked about one day having a double wedding — hopefully without annulments at the end of the next one.
At the end of the day, coming out can be a harrowing experience if you aren’t supported by the people around you, so one can only hope that going through it with your spouse makes it a little bit easier!
