Ellen Confirms It's a No-Go for Kim Burrell's Performance
Ellen doesn't mess around with hate speech.
Last week, anti-gay singer/songwriter Kim Burrell delivered a hate-filled sermon at Houston's Love & Liberty Fellowship Church. A video of the lecture surfaced online and garnered a lot of attention very quickly. In the video, Burrell said, "That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women. It has come into our church, and it has embarrassed the kingdom of God."
Shortly after Burrell's controversial remarks flooded everyone's News Feed, the homophobic pastor tried to back-pedal. "I never said 'LGBT' in the sermon. I said 'S-I-N,'" Burrell told Us Weekly. "I know that people are going to be mad. ... "I know that people are going to be mad. ... To every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, that has it; I love you because God loves you. But God hates the sin in you and me, anything that is against the nature of God. I'm called to do what God called me to do, and that's it, and I do it with passion. ... I make no excuses or apologies."
After the dust had settled and it was evident Burrell wouldn't retract her statements, the focus shifted to her scheduled performance on The Ellen Show. Apparently, homophobes and Hollywood's most influential lesbian, Ellen DeGeneres, don't mesh well.
Today, DeGeneres addressed her concerned fans on Twitter saying, "For those asking, Kim Burrell will not be appearing on my show."

Since then, Pharrell took to Instagram to express his views on hate speech. Making no particular reference to Burrell or DeGeneres, Pharrell said, "I condemn hate speech of any kind. There is no room in this world for any kind of prejudice. My greatest hope is for inclusion and love for all humanity in 2017 and beyond."
