About 100 people gathered Sunday at Cameron Village shopping center in Raleigh NC to send a message of tolerance and togetherness.
The demonstration grew out of an incident last Wednesday involving a security officer who asked a lesbian, Caitlin Breedlove, and her girlfriend to leave the premises because they were being affectionate by kissing on the cheek.
George York, the president of York properties, which manages Cameron Village, issued a written apology to Breedlove and her partner, promising additional sensitivity training for all security personnel.
Furthermore, York Properties issued an official statement:
“We apologized that the women were offended, and we affirmed that Cameron Village and York Properties have no tolerance for discrimination of any kind and believe all people deserve the right to be treated fairly in their work, homes and daily lives.”
