After being angered by two homophobic protesters displaying hateful signs in her town, Tillamook, Ore., high school student Makaila Ragan took it upon herself to counter their messages by making a big protest sign of her own. One she proudly held while standing next to the protesters said “I Heart Gays” in big and bold lettering.

Little did the Tillamook High School junior know that through her small act of solidarity with LGBT people in her town, she was starting a movement. A movement that has seen dozens and dozens of people showing up to protest with her and the creation of a Facebook group (called "Tillamook for Love") filled with pictures and messages spreading acceptance and equality.

"I didn't even know that this many people would be supportive of it," Makaila told The Oregonian.

The support Makaila has received has been so great that she’s considering the possibility of leading a pro-gay demonstration every Tuesday to counter the antigay protests she sees regularly, The Oregonian reports.

“We should all love each other and make peace with the world,” she said.

You go, Makaila! Let us know what you think of her amazing protest and ways you’ve helped spread love and equality in the comments or on Twitter!
