New York City Council speaker Christine Quinn, a 2013 mayoral front-runner, has set May 19 as the date for her wedding to fiancée Kim Catullo.
The New York Post reports that Quinn (pictured left), who could become the first woman and openly gay person elected mayor, sent out “save the date” cards Monday in the style of vintage subway maps. Her office provided few other details beyond the information that the private ceremony with family and friends would be held in Manhattan. Mayor Michael Bloomberg is one of the invited guests, according to the Post.
The Speaker advocated in highly personal times for the marriage equality law that passed the legislature last June. She publicly said that she and Catullo, an attorney and her partner of a decade, wanted their elderly fathers to be able to dance at their wedding in New York, not some other state.
Quinn, 45, has yet to make a formal announcement of her mayoral bid, although she is an early leader in fund-raising. The campaign, which will pit the speaker against a handful of other well-known hopefuls in a Democratic primary, is expected to heat up after the wedding.
