Living in a gayborhood doesn't have to be expensive. Real estate website Trulia studied Census data and from it created a list of affordable alternatives to pricey areas like San Francisco’s Castro and Southern California’s West Hollywood.
With the Census inclusive of a count on same-sex couples by zip code, Trulia could identify the gayborhoods and check the price of housing. See some of the suggestions below:
San Francisco
Most popular neighborhood among female couples: Castro, San Francisco ($671 per square foot). Trulia's affordable alternative: Redwood Heights, Oakland ($230 per square foot).
New York
Most popular neighborhood among female couples: Park Slope, Brooklyn ($664 per square foot). Trulia's affordable alternative: Nyack, N.Y. ($266 per square foot).
Los Angeles
Most popular neighborhood among female couples: West Hollywood ($481 per square foot). Trulia's affordable alternative: Eastside, Long Beach ($207 per square foot).
Washington, DC
