Last year at this time we were gearing up for the releases of two big films featuring queer women, Freeheldand Carol, and if you were wondering where the queer-themed lady movies were this year, there’s good news with the release of a clip from Below Her Mouth, a steamy romantic film from director April Mullins and starring out model Erika Linder.

Linder, renowned for her stunning androgyny, plays a roofer named Dallas who meets and falls for Jasmine (Natalie Krill), a fashion editor with a male fiancé (Sebastian Pigott). The women enter into a torrid affair until Jasmine is faced to confront real life.

The story of a woman cheating on her fiancé or steady boyfriend with another woman is a tale as old as time in LGBT cinema (Lianna, Personal Best, Puccini for Beginners, Imagine Me and You, Kiss Me…), but here’s hoping Below Her Mouth brings something new and thoughtful to the story. It sure promises to bring the heat, as evidenced by the trailer.

Premiering this month at the Toronto International Film Festival, Below Her Mouth boasts an impressive all-female creative team including the writer, director, producers, and entire crew.

“We wanted to honestly express a women’s view of intimacy, honesty, lust, sex, love and what turns us on…what takes us to the point of no return no matter the gender,” director Mullen told Indiewire. “To keep as true as possible we included all key creatives, from sound, to design, to editing, to costume, to lighting, and music. On the floor, an all female crew would allow the actresses to feel supported, and allow themselves to forget everyone in the room and escape into each other.”

Now, we just have to wait for Below Her Mouth to come to a city near us!
