Chely Wright’s LIKE ME Organization to Open LGBT Community Center in Kansas City

Country music superstar Chely Wright’s LIKEME Organization will open its first LIKEME Lighthouse on March 10th in Kansas City. On Saturday, March 10th at noon, the Lighthouse will officially open with a short ribbon cutting ceremony and silent art auction. Celebs including Wright, Hal Sparks, Alan Cumming, and Jennifer Knapp will participate in the LIKE ME Benefit Concert at 7pm at the UMKC Student Union Theater.

Country music superstar Chely Wright’s LIKE ME Organization will open its first LIKE ME Lighthouse on March 10th in Kansas City.

According to the org’s press release, the Lighthouse will serve as a safe haven and welcoming community center for the Kansas City LGBT community, their families and straight allies. The Lighthouse will be open seven days a week: Monday-Saturday from 11am -7pm and Sunday from 12pm-6pm.

Grand opening weekend events are scheduled to begin on Friday, March 9th with a benefit screening and Q&A of Wish Me Away, a documentary about Chely’s coming out story. The screening is set to take placeat the Screenland Crossroads Theater at 6:30pm.

On Saturday, March 10th at noon, the Lighthouse will officially open with a short ribbon cutting ceremony and silent art auction. Celebs including Wright, Hal Sparks, Alan Cumming, and Jennifer Knapp will participate in the LIKE ME Benefit Concert at 7pm at the UMKC Student Union Theater.

And lastly, on Sunday, March 11th, the org will host an open NOH8 photo shoot from 12pm-3pm.

The LIKE ME Organization was founded in 2010 to provide assistance, resources, and education to LGBT individuals, their family, and friends. The org strives to prevent LGBT bullying and teen suicide.

In May 2010, Wright became the first major country music performer to come out and her many accolades include being named the Academy of Country Music’s (ACM) Top New Female Vocalist in 1995, seven studio albums, and more than fifteen hit singles on country music charts.
