Fred Phelps brought his group of hate-mongering protestors to San Diego’s Comic-Con on Thursday, only to be met with a 50-strong group of Jedis, robots, aliens, and other costumed counter protesters.
The array of brandished signs parodied Westboro’s traditional God hates fags messages. Among the slogans were “Kill all humans,” “God hates Jedi,” “All glory to the hypno-toad,”and “God loves gay robin.” According to Comic Alliance, the counter-protesters also led cheers of “What do we want?” “Gay sex!” “When do we want it?” “Now!”
The church members’ demonstrations were ultimately drowned out by the Comic-Con crowd, diffusing Westboro’s messages of hatred with a little laughter and a lot of creativity.
