Warning: Mild spoilers for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery below.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has been the talk of the holiday season as far as movies go, and the dash of queer romance on top of watching rich people bicker and Daniel Craig solve mysteries was an absolute delight. And now, Hugh Grant is opening up about his surprise part in it all.

Grant was introduced, albeit briefly, as the partner of Craig’s Benoit Blanc. The relationship wasn’t explicitly defined in the film, but it was clear enough to anyone not stuck on heteronormativity.

The actor offered few details in a recent interview with Collider, but he did make this excellent comment we won't soon forget: “It is true, I’m married to James Bond.”

“It’s the tiniest little moment,” he continued. “I don’t really know why they wanted to do it but anyway, I thought Knives Out 1 was brilliant, and so yeah, I thought why not?”

Writer/director Rian Johnson already answered the “why” of it all, explaining in previous interviews that it just made sense to him for Blanc to be gay and have a partner, but that he didn’t want the detective’s personal life to become a focal point in the film. It’s a moment that was casual enough, but necessary for non-relationship reasons we won’t spoil here, and that Johnson got Grant for the part only made it better.

Fans certainly enjoyed the reveal, and have made a point to say so on social media.

The third Knives Out movie is already in the works, and Johnson has acknowledged that he expected fans would “want to see more of” Blanc’s relationship in the future. Will Grant be back? Will he and Craig actually share screen time in the next movie? These are the mysteries we will have to grapple with in between cases, but the demand is clearly there.
