We're Crossing Our Fingers That 'Deadpool 2' Might Have Multiple Queer Characters

Rumor has it this might be the one!

Negasonic Teenage Warhead was definitely the coolest part of the first Deadpool movie, and that's not an easy task. So hold on to your butts, because she’s about to get even cooler! That new girl in the preview? She’s her girlfriend. And they might not even be the only gay characters in the movie! *squealing*

Well, maybe.

See, this is still just a rumor—and it sure as hell wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has been rumored to have a gay character in their films...

Everyone was excited for Thor: Ragnarok's  Valkyrie, a bi-babe...whose lady flirting was left on the cutting room floor. Then we had Black Panther and it’s canon lesbian couple...that didn’t even make it into any scenes that could be cut. And despite getting reeeeeeally close, even Deadpool himself still hasn’t done anything in the cinematic universe that matches his much more fluid sexuality in the comics. (Even if Ryan Reynold is totally down.)

So we would not advise holding your breath.

But, as rumor has it, not only is Negasonic Teenage Warhead getting a girlfriend, the super adorable and gorgeous pink-haired mutant played by Shiori Kutsuna seen in the previews, but the movie will also feature Lewis Tan as the pansexual Shatterstar.

According to some who have seen the movie, the character is entirely new, not Psylocke or Surge, as the internet has suggested. While it’s a little disappointing they aren’t using the massive comic X-Men cast at their fingertips, Psylocke hasn’t really done well on the big screen in her two versions, so it’s makes sense they wouldn’t go that route. Negasonic Teenage Warhead, while herself technically a canon X-Men, isn’t exactly a mainstream character who was mainly chosen for having a cool as hell name. (Which, to be fair, she really really does.)

Brianna Hildebrand, the actress who plays Negasonic, is herself pansexual, and very open about it. She is currently starring in the lesbian romance The First Girl I Loved, an English movie where she plays a school athlete who falls for an awkward newspaper editor in high school.

And lesbian romance isn’t the only possible queer content. As mentioned above, it has been confirmed Shatterstar is going to be in this movie (Shatterstar is also a time and dimensional traveler like Cable, so his inclusion makes sense). The character was originally asexual (by way of trauma, so not exactly the best asexual representation to have), but in recent comics he has explored both bisexual and pansexual feelings. What, if anything, the movie will do with this character is super unclear, since nobody even knew he was going to be in it until not to long ago.

So, with 4 possible queer characters (since Deadpool himself is up on the table, possibly literally, given that his super cool girlfriend probably wouldn’t object to a threesome) we’ll see how Marvel does with their Schrodinger's queers this round.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters May 18. Watch the trailer in the video below.
