Fans and homophobes alike bombarded Rose with comments that led her to back off of social media.

Actress Ruby Rose has deleted her Twitter account and disabled comments on her Instagram after receiving backlash for being cast as Batwoman in the CW's Arrowverse.

Announced just last week, Rose was excited to take on the role in upcoming crossover episodes in CW's The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl, as well as a potential spinoff series.

"This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different," Rose wrote on Instagram.

The summary for the upcoming Batwoman series reads:

"Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope."

While many fans congratulated Rose, Rose was overwhelmed with negative comments on Twitter and Instagram.

Some comic book fans were disappointed CW didn't cast a Jewish actress for the canonically Jewish character, others bashed the 32-year-old's acting chops, many didn't think she fit the role since Rose identifies as gender fluid, and then there was justs good old-fashioned homophobia and misogyny.

"Ruby Rose to star as the new lesbian Batwoman because you cannot have any straight, white male characters in 2018," wrote one particularly assinine commenter. "Every new, or rebooted, character has to either be gay, female, black, Latino or more than one of those."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rose confronted the attacks on Twitter before deleting her account:

"Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.

When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable… when we tear each other down it’s much more hurtful than from any group. But hey/ love a challenge I just wish women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…Sending everyone my love and gratitude, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year, this month especially.

I am looking forward to getting more than 4 hours of sleep and to break from Twitter to focus all my energy on my next 2 projects. If you need me, I’ll be on my Bat Phone."
