It's a cathartic moment for both father and son.

Jon Kent finally had the opportunity to come out to his father in the most recent issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El.

The popular comic series saw Jon not only take on the mantle of Superman, but come out as bisexual last year. He embarked on a relationship with his friend-turned-boyfriend, Jay Nakamura, and the two have continued fighting crime and protecting earth.

Issue #17 sees Clark Kent aka Kal-El aka the og Superman finally return to the planet, leaving Jon fretting over how he is going to properly come out to his father.

Clark, in turn, has been uncertain why his son seems unwilling to talk to him about the big changes in his life. This eventually leads to a sweet moment between father and son as Jon works up the courage to talk to his dad towards the end of the issue.

“I wasn’t worried you’d literally fly away from me at super-speed,” Jon tells him, after acknowledging there have been videos of him and Jay plastered everywhere. “But if I saw the wrong look on your face — doubt, disapproval, disappointment — even for a fraction of a second, then that would be…distance between us.”

Clark reassures him that he loves and supports him, saying, “Anyone who makes your life better will always be a hero in my eyes.”

Superman: Son of Kal-El has been a controversial release for DC, with some fans choosing to stay in the homophobic dark ages, though many others were grateful to see the comic welcome inclusivity in a main character.

Although it will be coming to the end of its run with issue #18, Jon will be getting a new series next year, Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent.
